week two, sunday
[After the execution, Bellamy wanders the beach, too keyed up to do much of anything else. He's not so much walking as pacing, steps a bit too quick and posture a bit too tense. He hates this, and it's written in every line of his face, like he's trying very hard to figure something out and failing utterly. When he spots Vriska, though, he finally stops.]
Up to no good, Vriska?
Up to no good, Vriska?
no subject
Always!
[ But the look softens a little as she turns to properly face him. She'll gesture with a hand, airy, one eyebrow raised. ]
What are you doing, anyway? Wait, let me guess. Stalking around, all broody and serious! Did I get it? I totally got it, didn't I?
no subject
[He wouldn't exactly call it brooding, but hey. You live your best life, Vriska.]
There's a hell of a lot to be serious about right now.
no subject
[ She'll move over to join him, watching him with a faint but curious smile. ]
Which leads me to ask: how're you holding up?
no subject
How do you think I'm holding up? Is that a serious question?
no subject
no subject
[He was actually agreeing with her for the entire trial, which was impressive.]
If we don't figure something out by Thursday, our body count is going to double.
no subject
No faith in us figuring it out, huh? [ drawled, somewhat. very dry. ] Me neither.
[ Shakes her head slowly. ] I did talk to someone about getting everybody together to discuss who we thought the Chiefs would pick for that role. You know, the fallback killer one.
no subject
[Maybe. Bellamy doesn't know what to believe anymore.]
no subject
[ ... ] I am also willing to bet at least one limb on Hal picking somebody just because he thought it was funny.
no subject
So who do you think they picked? Besides the joke choice.
no subject
You want my honest opinion?
[ Now she smiles again, though it is fairly humorless. ]
At least one hero. Someone who would abhor having to kill! Because that would be hysterical. At least one experienced killer, to get the job done. At least one person who can act like a strategist and plan out kills.
[ Tilts her head. ]
But it could be more than that. It could also be less! We have no real way of knowing.
no subject
Do you have a role, Vriska?
no subject
You don't fuck around, Bellamy! I like that about you. But, no. If I did, I might know more about what's going on here!
[ Gives him a considering look. ]
Do you?
no subject
[He sighs.]
Who do you think does, then?
no subject
[ Ticks off on her fingers: ] Akira. Raven. Jacopo. Kirigiri. Lelouch. Maybe a couple others. They all seem like they could handle it! But that doesn't mean any of them has one.
no subject
[They tell each other everything. He shakes his head, scrubbing a hand through his hair, his voice shifting to something more quiet and tired. He's so sick of never knowing who's about to stab him in the back. He thought the Ark would be a break from it, and now he's here.]
I know you don't have any reason to believe me. I don't think Akira would have let Haru die if he had a role. I don't know about the rest.
no subject
[ a shrug. ]
Anyway, I know you could be lying to me. Or you could be telling the truth! I can't say I would blame anyone for lying about having a role when it could mean your life if you fuck up. As for Akira, who knows? Those are just the people I think could handle it. All I know is, the Chiefs knew exactly what they were doing when they set all this up. Stick us all together in one place, make us rely on each other to survive, and then sow paranoia! It's pretty genius.
no subject
[He has a huge list of words he'd use, actually, but maybe not in front of a kid.]
It doesn't matter. I'm not playing their game.
no subject
Breaking the rules? That's the way I'd play it! But it's risky. Get caught and you may not get off as lightly as Nino did. What did you have in mind?
no subject
Shut the Chiefs down and figure out how they got us here in the first place.
no subject
no subject
[He says this with utter conviction. If anyone can do it, it's Raven.]
Are you willing to play this to the end?
no subject
I really like Raven, and I want to see her live, so I will tell you a secret, Bellamy. I used to have powers! Flight, telepathy, you name it. I was pretty powerful! And I am not saying that to boast, but to make a point. The Chiefs have somehow completely nerfed all my powers. I ain't got shit on this island. Not even the powers that are latent to my species! They have abilities we don't understand. If you and Raven come up with a plan to take them out, make sure it is completely foolproof.
[ a siiigh. ]
To answer your question, yes.
no subject
We'll make sure, but I want to know whose side you're on.
no subject
Are you asking me if I'm planning on killing anybody?
no subject
[At least they're both being blunt!]
no subject
I'm not planning on it, no. But I won't lie to you. I have killed people before, and I would do it again out of self-defense if I had to. My only goal right now is to try and break this game so we can just get out of here.
[ ... ]
I'd like to get as many people out of here as we can, [ she says, quiet. ] I mean, you've talked to the rest of them as much as I have. Half these people are way in over their fucking heads.
no subject
[Self-defense is one thing, but Bellamy can't fathom murdering someone unprovoked. Not anymore.]
no subject
That really depends on how things develop. But to try and give you a straight answer, I won't be killing anyone unless there is literally no other option.
no subject
Good. I don't want this turning into a bloodbath. There's a difference between being able to survive and deserving it.
no subject
You and Raven have been through some shit, haven't you? She didn't tell me much, but I got the impression that your lives were pretty brutal.
no subject
It hasn't been a picnic. What's your point?
no subject
Simmer down. There's no point. Just that you two are much more realistic about our situation than most people I've spoken to.
